Kew POWO accepts Echinopsis chamaecereus with the author citation H.Friedrich & Glaetzle; its native range is Northwest Tucumán, Argentina.1 Kew records the native range as Northwest Tucumán; widespread cultivated forms are not evidence about wild populations.

The production lineage is species → Echinopsis → Trichocereeae; the Cactaceae family context remains higher in the ancestry chain.
