Kew POWO accepts Echinopsis aurea with the author citation Britton & Rose; its native range is Argentina.1 Kew records the native range as Argentina; commercial inventory is not a measure of wild population status.

The production lineage is species → Echinopsis → Trichocereeae; the Cactaceae family context remains higher in the ancestry chain. This source owns only the existing species node and its direct genus relationship; it creates no family, order, subfamily or tribe nodes.
