Acharagma roseanum

Acharagma roseanum identity and care summary

Acharagma roseanum is an Acharagma with a small tubercled body. A globose to short-columnar body, tubercle and areole pattern, central and radial spines, flowers, fruit, seeds and documented provenance should be evaluated together. Identity should not be settled from a sales label or one photograph; tubercles, areoles, spines, flowers, fruit, seeds and documented provenance should be evaluated together.1

Root zone, medium and watering

Use a very fast-draining coarse mineral mix with little organic matter; avoid fine material that turns muddy around the roots. Do not use a fixed-day calendar; water in a controlled cycle only after the mineral mix and root zone have dried throughout, and extend the interval substantially in cool or low-light periods. A dry-looking surface is insufficient; inspect the root zone as well. Leave no standing water after irrigation. After repotting, allow injured roots time to dry and callus.

Do not test low temperature with wet roots during a cool rest. Evaluate wrinkling, soft tissue, colour change and root odour together; attempts to force rapid growth in a continuously wet organic medium increase rot risk.

Light, temperature and observation

The live direct_sun operational enum is preserved; transition gradually and observe body colour, temperature, wrinkling and airflow together. The operational enum is not a laboratory light threshold; airflow, heat behind glass, season and previous cultivation conditions alter the outcome. Increase light over several weeks and do not test cold tolerance with a hot or wet root zone.

Kew maintains seven synonyms: six homotypic combinations and the heterotypic Acharagma huasteca. Historical generic combinations are not separate accepted-species routes. Acharagma galeanense is a separately accepted species. Historical A. roseanum subsp. galeanense and Escobaria roseana subsp. galeanensis are excluded from this roseanum payload and synonym set.

Safety and conservation

The live caution field is preserved as an operational carry-forward; use protective tools for spine contact and do not ingest the plant. The global conservation field is VU.2 The unsupported live LC value is corrected to the maintained global VU. Vulnerable concerns wild populations, not commercial availability. Prefer documented legal nursery propagation and do not encourage wild collection.

Light

Direct Sun

The live `direct_sun` operational enum is preserved; transition gradually and observe body colour, temperature, wrinkling and airflow together.

Watering

14-28 Days

Do not use a fixed-day calendar; water in a controlled cycle only after the mineral mix and root zone have dried throughout, and extend the interval substantially in cool or low-light periods.

Soil

Very well-draining cactus and succulent mix

Use a very fast-draining coarse mineral mix with little organic matter; avoid fine material that turns muddy around the roots.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the accepted name?
Acharagma roseanum (Boed.) E.F.Anderson
What is its native range?
Nuevo León, Mexico
How often is it watered?
There is no fixed interval; water after the mineral mix and root zone have dried throughout.
What medium is suitable?
Use a very fast-draining coarse mineral mix with little organic matter; avoid fine material that turns muddy around the roots.
What light is suitable?
The live `direct_sun` operational enum is preserved; transition gradually and observe body colour, temperature, wrinkling and airflow together.
Are synonyms separate species routes?
No; they are nomenclatural names related to the same accepted species in the maintained backbone.
Does a product photograph prove identity?
No; tubercles, areoles, spines, flowers, fruit, seeds and provenance must be evaluated together.
Is conservation status based on retail stock?
No; global conservation status concerns evidence about wild populations, not commercial inventory.
